We should all be kind. We should all be truthful. But here is the thing, kindness without honesty is not kindness.
It is not wrong to be honest with people but it is wrong to lie in the name of “being kind.” We can be honestly kind to people when speaking the truth.
Matter of fact, the apostle Paul links “speaking the truth in love” with being a mature Christian in Ephesians 4.
Being kind without being honest is selfish. It says I am more interested in this person liking me than I am in their personal growth.
Being honest without being kind is arrogant. It fails to recognize that we all have our weaknesses and areas where we need to grow.
So, speak truth but speak it in love.
