Uncertainty of the future keeps many of us from participating in the journey of change.
In the biblical account of Abraham, God teaches us about not letting uncertainty determine our future. Abraham is asked to leave his country, his community, and his family to go to a place that God will show him. God is saying to this man who should be thinking about front porches and rocking chairs leave everything. Walk away from everything that makes you who you are, that gives you meaning, that enables you to feed and care for your family and come with me. God tells Abraham, “Come with me but I am not going to tell you where we are going until we get there.”
With one word God changed everything. One word made history. One word would change destiny of not just a family but the world. One word set in motion a journey. “Go,” God says to Abraham. “Go from your country, and your kindred, and your father’s house to the land that I will show you,” God declares to Abraham (Genesis 12:1).
For Abraham, the word was “go.” What will be your one word for 2017? What word will guide you through the uncertainty of the future toward the journey of change? Pray. Ask the Lord for a word to guide you in the New Year.
Ecclesiastes 6:11 says, “The more the words, the less the meaning, and how does that profit anyone?” In life we can afford to be uncertain, but we cannot afford to be unclear. Life is full of uncertainty. Ask Abraham about uncertainty. But that doesn’t mean we have to remain unclear.
What word will guide you in 2017?
